CYPRUS CAMP 2013 - RAF AKROTIRI

 

INFORMATION

 

The Wing has an allocation of 7 male and 2 female cadets for this years Cyprus Camp at RAF Akrotiri for 02-10-Apr-13.

 

The Sovereign Base Area (SBA) of South-Eastern Cyprus includes RAF Akrotiri, which was first opened in 1956. Today the station's main operational focus is support to operations in Afghanistan. Akrotiri acts as a gateway to operations with both personnel and equipment moving through the station to and from theatre. The RAF also use the station as a temporary operating base for aircraft carrying out Armament Practice Camps. The RAF Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, also use the station every year for their display work up. Permanently based at RAF Akrotiri is No 84 Squadron who perform Search and Rescue duties as well as a support role for the UN peacekeeping forces on the island with Griffin helicopters.

 

Cadet camps at RAF Akrotiri are classed as an overseas camp. To be eligible to attend this camp you need to be 15 years or older, have passed Leading Cadet exam and have previously attended a camp at a RAF Station in the UK. The cost of this camp is £290 for the air fare plus €180 camp fees to cover accommodation, food and activities & €100 spending money

Those cadets who wish to go are required to have the completed paperwork including the necessary CC Forms 1-4 (Found on BADER) with a cheque for £290 made out to P&C Wg ATC by post.  Submission of an application does not automatically qualify attendance, applications will be filtered and successful applicants informed. Applicants will be notified if they are accepted or on the reserve list, applications and cheques will be held for those reserve list candidates in case they are called forward and returned asap once the trip is under way. NOTE Returns are required by 8th Feb 13 to allow me to process the applications in a timely manner and if necessary offer up any spaces to other Wgs in the Region.
