DUKE OF EDINBURGH BRONZE EXPEDITION QUALIFYING WEEKENDS.
On weekends of 17-18 July and 21-22 August 2010 we intend to run adventure training programs for cadets to qualify for the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition.
Weekend one will consist of a training day at 2171 squadron headquarters starting at 0845 prompt on Saturday 17 July 2010. Early that evening cadets will be transported to Brisworthy plantation (SX 556657) to camp overnight followed by a day walk on Sunday18 July 2010.
Weekend two is a 15 mile expedition starting at Plymouth and Downderry, walking the coastal footpath, with an overnight camp at Tregantle Fort (SX 388534). Teams will finish at Plymouth and Downderry on the Sunday then return to 2171 Squadron at endex or picked up by parents.
To qualify cadets must attend both weekends so no ‘part timers’ can be accepted.
An independent assessor will be at both weekends.
Squadrons sending cadets are responsible in ensuring that they are fully equipped and self sufficient, full NOK forms/ medical forms will be required and handed to me first thing on the17 July 2010 or I will be unable to take the cadet(s) on the weekends.
At this time I am going to attempt to do both weekends with minimum cost to cadets, unfortunately due to wing budget restraints we can expect no financial help from them. For safety we need to have a minibus with us for both weekends so a charge will have to be made. This I will let you know nearer to the dates. Also cadets will need money for personal use and the ferry charge from Plymouth to Cremyll and Cremyll to Plymouth on weekend two.
I may have to ask for help from staff and/or parents to help with transportation on the weekends.
